Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure, which enhances the appearance of the nose. It can be performed to reduce a large dorsal hump, thin a wide or bulbous tip, reduce excessive width or flaring of the nostrils, straighten a crooked nose, elevate a dropping or plunging tip or reduce an overly long nose.
Additionally, patients may undergo nasal surgery to correct breathing problems due to nasal passage obstruction. This procedure is know as septoplasty and can be performed at the same time that cosmetic improvements are made or by itself.
In certain patients a chin implant may be suggested to improved facial balance and enhance the results of Rhinoplasty.
Rhinoplasty Techniques
Closed Rhinoplasty
In the closed approach incisions are made inside the nose and excess cartilage and bone are reduced, sculpted and repositioned to improve contours.
Open Rhinoplasty
In the open approach, in addition to the intoned incision, a small incision is made at the central base of the nose (columella). This allows more complete visualization of the tip and dorsal structure for sculpting and repositioning.
The optimal surgical approach depends on each patients unique anatomic characteristics and will be decided upon at the time of consultation.
